An internship in women and gender studies offers students the opportunity, outside of a classroom, to engage with and contribute to organizations who focus on issues, work, and advocacy around women, gender and sexuality in relation to race, class, ability, nation and empire, among other variables. An internship encourages both scholarship and community involvement, as students work with a faculty sponsor to determine an analytical and evaluative portfolio of their work experience.

Any Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê undergraduate student with a 2.0 GPA, at least 6 WGST credit hours completed, and 30 total hours of credit may apply for a WGST internship. PreferenceÌýwill be given to WGST majors and minors. Please note that you must be enrolled at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê the semester that the internship takes place.

This is a ²õ³Ù¾±±è±ð²Ô»å-²õ³Ü±è±è´Ç°ù³Ù±ð»åÌý¾±²Ô³Ù±ð°ù²Ô²õ³ó¾±±è for Spring 2025. Students will also have the option to receive WGST credit for the internship. Students will be expected to intern 10 hours per week throughout the semester. They will receive a $2400 stipend upon completing their hours, paid in monthly installments from January through April 2024.

This is a two-year pilot program providing stipend support for internships which are otherwise unpaid or underpaid. The program may continue with sufficient interest and available funding.

To earn academic credit, students will be registered for up to 3 credit hours of WGST 3930. Students are charged tuition for the internship acording to the number of credit hours enrolled.ÌýThe department will facilitate matching each student and internship experience with a faculty mentor.

  1. Find an Internship SiteÌý
    • The majority of your internship work should be related to the field of women and gender studies (WGST). However, the organization itself might not be directly WGST-focused. For example, you might intern at a domestic violence service organization, human rights organization, legal advocacy organization, group lobbying on behalf of women and gender issues, or a health care agency. If you need help finding an eligible internship, email WGST@Colorado.EDU.
  2. Meet with site supervisor to establish weekly schedule and time commitmentÌýÌý
    • ÌýWe recommend sharing with your site supervisor theÌýInternship Supervisor Evaluation Form,Ìýso your supervisor is clear on what is expected of them and of you by the end of the semester.
    • As a reminder, students are expected to work 10 hours per week at their internship site.
  3. Find a faculty sponsor from the WGST facultyÌý
    • Search for faculty whose research aligns with your internship interests and/or a faculty member whose class you’ve taken (contact WGST@Colorado.EDUÌýif you need guidance).
  4. Work with faculty sponsor to determine semester check points and final portfolio materials to be submitted for a gradeÌýÌý
    • Typically, students are required to maintain weekly time sheets, produce monthly reports, create a portfolio, and write a summary essay based on their internship experience that contextualizes their work in a larger historical and sociological perspective.Ìý
  5. Complete Internship Application forms and submit to the WGST department ​
    • Fill out theÌý with the faculty sponsor and list assignments you will complete and the due dates and sendÌýtoÌýWGST@colorado.eduÌý
    • The WGST department's program coordinator will follow up with you to confirm your internship and and help register you for credits.
