In Memoriam: Dr. Gary "Dale" Meyer

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our retired colleague Gary 鈥淒ale鈥 Meyer, on July 20, 2024. He was a beloved professor of strategic management and entrepreneurship at Leeds from 1970 to 2004. His influence shaped generations of graduate business students and left an indelible mark on our academic community.

Born in Mingo Junction, OH, Meyer moved to Boulder in 1961 and was instrumental in establishing entrepreneurship as a focus in the School of Business. Throughout his illustrious career, he received numerous prestigious honors, including the Hazel Barnes Prize from the University of Colorado. His contributions extended globally when he was named a Global Small Business Ambassador by the International Council for Small Business.

In 1999, Meyer married his soulmate, Carol Jean Grever. Together, they traveled widely and cherished many happy moments in his beloved garden. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a steadfast mentor to many of his students and a life coach for recovering alcoholics.

We will fondly remember Dr. Meyer for his sense of humor and warm smile, which brought light and joy to those around him.

Please join us in keeping him and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association in his memory.
