Army ROTC Cadets from the Golden Buffalo Battalion were given the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Naval ROTC Colorado Meet on the CU-Boulder campus. The Meet took place from Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10. But, due to other pre-planned Army training, the Cadets were only able to participate in the Friday, March 8 activities.
The CU-Boulder Naval ROTC department has been putting on the Colorado Meet for 29 years now. This year there were twenty teams from across the U.S. that signed up to compete. Most of the teams that participated were NROTC teams, but this year the Air Force Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy sent academy Cadets to represent those institutions. There were over 420 Midshipmen and Cadets that converged on the CU campus to test their military knowledge, skills, and tactics.
AROTC sent the following Cadets:
1. One rifle team of three Cadets (Fleckenstein, McCormick, and Roy)
2. One pistol team of four Cadets (Ferrara, Jones, McCormick, and Young)
3. One knowledge team of four Cadets (Krohn, Morehouse, Scott, and Uzdensky)
The two shooting competitions were conducted throughout the day on Friday. The Cadets engaged in a closely regimented shooting competition where they were tested on their military shooting proficiency in a competitive environment. The guidelines for the exercise were taken from the National Rifle Association’s Competition Rulebook.
Our knowledge team were tested on various topics in a “Jeopardy” type format – so Cadets answered a series of questions testing their military knowledge and bearing. Of course, CU NROTC took 1st place overall followed by Nebraska in 2nd. Oklahoma took 3rd after dramatically breaking a four-way tie in a pull-up competition. Army ROTC looks forward to participating in next year’s competition.
